LISIANTHUS Natural beauty with roots in the Wild West It’s high time for a trip to the Wild West, where a beautiful flower with an even more beautiful name has its roots: the lisianthus. Its appealing symbolism – it symbolises gratitude amongst other things – makes it the perfect gift. Or would you rather keep this beauty for yourself?
COLOURS AND SHAPES The lisianthus is versatile. It comes in white, green, blue, pink, lilac, purple and salmon. Some flowers even have petals with multiple colours. Apart from being colourful, the lisianthus’s petals are also very soft and delicate. So handle with care!
SYMBOLISM The lisianthus may appear soft and cute, but it has a powerful symbolism, since this flower represents appreciation, gratitude and charisma. So it’s always a good time to give yourself or someone else a lisianthus. Don’t forget to mention the remarkable symbolism when you present your gift!
ORIGIN The lisianthus originates from North America, where it grows in desert riverbeds and in prairie regions. In the states of Texas, Nebraska, Nevada and Colorado they call this plant prairie gentian. Although originally an American beauty, the lisianthus’s rise to glory really only started in Japan. It was Japanese growers who crossed the prairie gentian in the 1930s to create the lisianthus we know today.
CARING FOR THE LISIANTHUS Trim the stems diagonally. Use a sharp knife for this. Remove excess foliage, so that no leaves are hanging in the water. Add cut flower food to the water for a longer vase life. Give lisianthus a clean vase with clean water. Top the vase up regularly: lisianthus need a lot of water. The thin petals mean that the water evaporates rapidly from the flowers. So don’t place them in the sun or near other sources of heat. Do not place lisianthus in a draught or next to the fruit bowl either.
